Drive team: Human Player
Build team
This season was a year of learning, how FIRST operates, learning tools and learning how to CAD for FIRST Designing, culminating in a claw designed, by myself and a teammate, being used on the robot.
In 2023, the team did well, winning the Week 1 Utah Regional in Salt Lake City, qualifying us for FRC World Championships.
The main bulk of the claw was designed by a team mate. Personally, I designed the 3d printed pads seen in white on the image above. The pads were 3d printed in PETG and then had a rubber sheet stuck to the inward facing pads to help grip the cone, the grippers worked equally well on the other cube game piece.
The full robot for the 2023 season is shown above. The base of the robot is built on a 3x3 foot drive base with a swerve drive in each corner allowing for multidirectional movement. The main tower sits above the drive base and is projecting forward to allow for the arm to be fully retracted even if the claw is open, the arm is attached to the top of the tower and swings forward and up. At the end of the arm is the claw. Opening and closing of the claw work with pneumatic pistons and the claw sits on a wrist allowing it to be adjusted independently of the arm. The motor driving the wrist is at the pivot point of the arm and it is run by a chain keeping less weight at the end of the arm.
